It's that time of the year when Christmas is breathing down our necks and if you're like us, you might not have got around to present shopping. In case you haven't, we have some ideas if you're shopping for iPod geeks. Here's a list of cool iPod accessories that would make your friend, family or co-worker happy (hint hint!). It's a mixed bag of goodies, so there's something for everyone, from kids to audio junkies. If there's anything else you think might be a better iPod gift, add it to the iPod Accessory category on TBSITW.

We receive email here and there asking, how do you do this or that. We like that kind of email. But there are some questions we can not answer. Even with a google search.
Can anyone help this person:
Is it possible that the Trebor Spearmint sweets can give you diarrhoea if you eat too many at once? I ate a packet all at once and had quite severe problems later that day.
Yeah I hate when that happens.
I feel passionate about bread, so I completely empathise:
I am a consumer who shops at the Walmart Store in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have been purchasing the Multigrain Batard for several months now. It has been the best bread I’ve ever purchased until lately. The shape and size of the bread has changed and more importantly, the texture has changed. Before, when it was shaped to resemble a football, the outside was crusty and chewy and the inside was tender but still a little chewy. It was delicious. Now it seems to be rolled and has a heavier texture. I no longer care for the bread. I’m very disappointed that I can no longer purchase the bread I enjoyed so much. I hope that you will consider changing it back to the way it was before.
We welcome all email, but if we can’t answer them, we will throw them up here. :)

A Happy Thanksgiving to all of our U.S. members! Remember to lay off the turkey so you can get more pumpkin pie in…
Curiously, it’s seems that Thanksgiving isn’t the most popular holiday on TBSITW. In fact it’s near the bottom of the list, being trumped by the usual suspects as well as your lesser known holidays such as No Pants Day and Talk like a Pirate Day. (Well ok, they’re not real holidays, but you guys voted for them!)
On a side note when I visited Wikipedia’s entry on Thanksgiving earlier today I was informed that “Thanksgiving is a day for sex”. Funny about that, I thought it had something to do with Pilgrims…

This is a knife is a really funny vodcast of going ons in the internet from channel 4 UK. They have a funny mention of TBSITW in great british style humour.
There is a high quality version of the video.
We are also a big fan of Wulffmorgenthaler. They have some of the funniest comic strips on the net. (Perfectly perverse). We recently got a mention in their news. You can vote for Wulffmorgenthaler. Check it out.

The Best Stuff in the World development has been moving on, but you may be wondering what has been happening in the last few weeks.
Recently we had a hack attempt on the site. We actually let him go, to learn what he was doing. Quite a clever guy, and we got a good idea of some of the weaknesses of the site. Nothing huge mind you.
We have improved the security there and proactively improved the security in other areas.
We will be slowing down development as we move into Christmas. We all badly need a break, and I think we will probably take a few weeks off. Next year is going to be fun. We have a lot features and ideas planned. Can’t wait.

TBSITW guys and girls are passionate about a lot of things (stuff). We are lovers of life. We love the people around us. We love our relationships. We love intimacy. We love our food. And we love our drink. We go out to find nice restaurants. We love to stay at home and explore food in the kitchen. We love smells. We love our senses. We love ice-cream. We love our music, we have eclectic tastes. We love our film. We love the environment. We love technology. We love the internet. We love knowledge. We love cheese. We love to laugh. We love to create. We love our past, because it makes us the people we are. We love a good read. We love when things come together. We love when things work out. We love personality and character. We love honesty and passion. We love learning. We love people who have the balls to do something positive for this world. We love the little things in life. We love to do things differently. We love good design. We love quality. We love cleverness. We love cool t-shirts and clothes. We love video games. We love sex and the naked body. We love to share. We love to be informed. We love good service. We love to feel. And we love to find new stuff.
If you have ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, you may understand what I am getting at. Passion and Quality are intrinsic to human nature. It is how we perceive the world. As a producer when we seek to create great things and as a consumer we desire quality and craftsmanship, we are being true to ourselves.
A lot of people get that, and a lot of people don’t. I guess that is good. As Kathy Sierra said in this post, “Unless you’re willing to risk passionate hate, you may never feel the love.” The people that come to TBSITW and say “these people voted for this or that and that’s stupid”. Shit, many things on the site are not representative of what we think is the best, TBSITW is a platform. It is a platform for you to wax lyrical about the things you are passionate about. It’s a place to find the best things in any category. If you don’t like what people are voting for, find a group that likes what you like and point them to the alternative that you have created.
It’s great to have a wide cross section of visitors, voting on things in which they believe. Adding the things they love. Or making jokes. Sometimes they come in large groups and push the votes up. But we’re all adults here, we know what is going on, and it is all in the name of fun.
When you create a platform like this, with voting and that great big collage on the front page, we are bound to create a snapshot of popular culture, good or bad. Even though we want to bring the gems from the long tail to the front, the question is implementation. Maybe it is not a problem. You can explore the site and find those nuggets. It is satisfying anyway.
